How much a good pearl necklace costs depends largely on the type of pearl chosen. Cultured freshwater pearls are significantly cheaper than the rare Akoya pearls or South Sea pearls. The mother-of-pearl layers also play a role. A precious pearl contains thick and smooth mother-of-pearl layers that are formed by the oyster. The shape, size, shine and color are also decisive for the price of a pearl necklace. Simple pearl necklaces with just one pearl start at around 30 euros. Elaborate pearl necklaces with lots of pearls and gold can cost tens of thousands of euros.
